CT lawyer files lawsuit, challenges Gov. Lamont's order for people to wear masks

Stamford attorney Lindy Urso filed the lawsuit saying the order is unconstitutional because it infringes on people's "individual freedoms and liberties."

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Connecticut lawyer is suing Gov. Ned Lamont over his executive order requiring people to wear face coverings in public places to help curb the spread of the coronavirus.

Stamford attorney Lindy Urso said Saturday that he filed a lawsuit in federal court saying the order is unconstitutional because it infringes on people's "individual freedoms and liberties."

He told FOX61's Carmen Chau he doesn't believe masks actually reduce the risk of COVID-19.

"It's unnecessary government overreach, and I've had enough," he said.

A spokesman for Governor Lamont declined to comment Saturday.

Lamont's order requires people to wear face coverings in public places where they cannot maintain a safe social distance of 6 feet from other people. It takes effect Monday night at 8 p.m.
