U.S. News: Connecticut ranks 3rd in healthcare access

Connecticut was also recognized for beating the national average for multiple public health measurements, with just 7.2% of the state being uninsured.

CONNECTICUT, USA — Connecticut ranks third among the 50 states for health care, according to a new report by U.S. News.

Critics recognized the Constitution State for its wide-reaching access to patient medical services, right behind Hawaii and Massachusetts.

“I think the expectation is they’re going to get some of the best health care that’s offered in America, and they’re going to find very compassionate and competent caregivers,” Paul Kidwell, CT Hospital Association senior vice president, said.

Connecticut was also recognized for beating the national average by multiple public health measurements, with just 7.2% of the state population without health insurance, compared to 11.3%, nationally.

The state has an obesity rate of 30.4% compared to the U.S. average of 33.9%.

“Our commitment is to building a healthier Connecticut, and it’s also a commitment by policymakers to say we have a role to play to ensure people are insured, people can go access the care that they need, so it really says we are all working together to support good health,” Kidwell said.

Providers say they are placing a focus on preventative healthcare and building a robust workforce in the years ahead.

“We're starting to increase Primary Care Access and making sure people are, you know, really taking care of chronic conditions, so that we can keep as many people out of the hospital as possible,” Kidwell said. “Great quality of life starts with good health.”

While Connecticut leads the U.S. in healthcare, it trails almost all states in fiscal stability and opportunity, with Wyoming and Vermont topping the list in those categories.
