Order of 2024 Connecticut primary ballots revealed

Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas revealed the order in which candidates will appear for the Democrat and Republican presidential primary races in Connecticut.

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Secretary of the State Stephanie Thomas visited Achievement First Amistad High School in New Haven Tuesday for a Connecticut tradition.

With the help of students, Thomas selected the order of names that will appear on the 2024 presidential primary ballots. First listed for the Democrats will be Marianne Williamson followed by Dean Phillips. Cenk Uygur will appear third and last on the list will be President Joe Biden.

Connecticut voters participating in the Republican primary will see Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis listed first on the ballot followed by Nikki Haley. former President Donald Trump will be listed third and Ryan Binkley follows in fourth.

“A lot of attention is given to big elections but a lot of civics and elections and voting are in the very small details such as this,” Thomas told a gymnasium full of high schoolers.

Many of the candidates voters will see on the ballots have suspended their presidential campaigns but never submitted a written request to have their name removed.

While speaking before students, Thomas also addressed the special election for Bridgeport mayor. Tuesday marks the fourth time voters will be casting their ballots in this particular race. Last year, the court ordered a re-do because of suspected fraud, and Thomas hopes this election restores trust in the community.

“We've had our election monitors on the ground every day in the town clerk's office,” Thomas said. “They were there for the opening of the polls today. Some issues have come up, so they've been in regular contact both with the registrar's moderators.”

The issues involved a fire alarm going off at a polling place Tuesday morning where people had to exit the building. Thomas also mentioned a few “third-party” concerns reported to the Connecticut State Elections Enforcement Commission that are being investigated.
