EAST HAVEN, Conn. — Three teenagers were arrested after crashing a stolen car into an East Haven Sportplex entrance while fleeing from the police.

All three teenagers - two 14-year-olds and one 15-year-old - were charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle, criminal trover in the second degree, reckless driving, and interfering with an officer.

On Tuesday at around 2:18 p.m., police received a call from a home visit healthcare worker stating that her car rental had been stolen in the area of Mil Street while she was checking on a patient.

An officer who was on patrol in the area located the stolen 2016 Chrysler 200 in a former church parking lot. Police said several people wearing ski masks were inside of the car at the time.

Police said the occupants, who were later determined to be underaged boys, fled the lot and headed eastbound on Foxon Road speeding towards North Branford.

Police said that because of the reckless driving, he did not attempt to stop the car and advised dispatch of their last known location. A short time later, dispatch told officers that the car was involved in a one-car accident in the area of  Foxon Road, between the CT Sportsplex entrance and the Gulf Gas Station.

Three teenage occupants fled the car on foot and a search and K9 track ensued, leading officers into a wooded area.

According to police, while they were searching the area, detectives from the North Branford Police Department observed three people matching the description of the fleeing suspects enter a car at the dead end of Branhaven Drive. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop on the car and took the three teenagers into custody. The driver was determined to be an elderly family member unaware of what had just taken place.

No injuries were reported as a result of the car accident.

All three teenagers were later released to their guardians and were given a court date of June 28, at Superior Court for Juvenile Matters in New Haven.
