HARTFORD, Conn. — Multiple police and fire stations around Connecticut are experiencing difficulties with receiving 911 calls Tuesday afternoon.

Police stations statewide say this is an issue affecting departments around the state.

Texting 911 for help is still available and is not experiencing major issues at this time. Some police stations ask callers to keep trying to call 911 since some calls are getting through.

The cause of the outage is not known at this time.

According to the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, at 11:49 a.m., 9-1-1 capability began experiencing issues across Connecticut.

“DESPP is coordinating with partners and working on resolving the issue,’’ said Clayton Northgraves, Director of Statewide Emergency Communications.

“This is a commercial carrier equipment issue. There is not any evidence to indicate a deliberate attack. We do not have confirmation from every municipality that they are having issues, but the issue is being seen across the state.”

As of 2:30 p,m. 9-1-1 service was returning to some communities.

Some municipalities have alternative numbers people can use to get help until 911 is fully operational again.
