Angel of Edgewood brings community together with annual pre-Thanksgiving breakfast

Volunteers also distributed bags of groceries, household supplies and free coats.

HARTFORD, Conn — Angel of Edgewood, a local non-profit that serves as a food security resource for the Greater Hartford community, hosted its Annual pre-Thanksgiving breakfast on Wednesday morning.

Organizers said the breakfast not only provides a free hot meal to individuals and families who may otherwise go without, but it also served as an opportunity to foster unity and mutual understanding.

“The mission is just bringing people together, all people, all communities. No politics. No religion. Just humanity,” said Jendayi Scott-Miller, Founder of Angel of Edgewood, Inc.

Volunteers also distributed bags of groceries, household supplies, free coats, and much more so families will leave with more than just a hot breakfast.

During the event, volunteers, along with U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy served breakfast to individuals and families throughout the community. This year’s breakfast was hosted by Rabbi Michael Pincus and Congregation Beth Israel.

The Connecticut General Assembly's Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity, & Opportunity (CWCSEO) joined Angel of Edgewood Inc. in cosponsoring the Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Breakfast.

“This is a moment where I hope everybody in Connecticut who has means gives a little bit to the efforts that you can find anywhere in your community. Trying to feed people. Trying to make sure people have what they need during the holiday season,” said Sen. Chris Murphy.

The event also fostered community. Sponsors included Yale Club of Hartford, JTConnect, Crown Market, Staples, City of Hartford, Women At The Table-CT, and FOX61.

“These donations were from a community food drive we did this weekend. We did a special kosher food drive. The Jewish community has been so supportive of Angel of Edgewood for many years. The donations that we took were all kosher and these donations will be given to the Jewish Family Center to fill the kosher food pantry,” said Scott-Miller.

Caroline Poland, JTConnect's Executive Director said it means that every part of the community wants to come together to make a difference.

"I find it very inspiring at what is a really difficult time for the Jewish community and just the community in general,” she said.
