NEWINGTON, Conn. — The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) investigating after "antisemitic graffiti" was reportedly found at the Newington office on Wednesday.

The graffiti was found in a bathroom, and now officials are trying to figure out who did it. At the same time, they are reiterating that behavior that would encourage a "hostile work environment" will not be tolerated.

"Antisemitism, and hate and bigotry of all forms, have no place at CTDOT. Anyone who holds those beliefs in their heart is not welcome in the CTDOT family," CTDOT Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto told staff in an email Wednesday night.

Now, internal security personnel at CTDOT are investigating to try to find who may have been in the area when the vandalism took place, CTDOT told FOX61.

There is no active police investigation at this time, CTDOT said.

There has been a rise in hate incidents around Connecticut as the Israel-Hamas conflict continues. Graffiti with a swastika and racial slur was recently found on the Central Connecticut State University campus, and UConn students said they are feeling anxious and worried that something might happen there too.

The Anti-Defamation League of CT has recorded a 388% increase in hate incidents nationally, a 1,000% increase in social media hate, and a 295% increase in hate incidents in Connecticut.

This is a developing story.
