Arrest made in 2016 sexual assault: Waterbury police

WATERBURY, Conn — Waterbury police have arrested a suspect in Washington state for a 2016 sexual assault that happened in the city. 

Niamkey Amichia, 33, allegedly posed as a police officer on Nov. 21, 2016, when he sexually assaulted a woman, according to police.

On Jan. 2023, Pierce County Sheriff's Department in Washington state was investigating an unrelated sexual assault involving Amichia, which provided Waterbury police investigators with a profile hit match.

Waterbury investigators were able to obtain an arrest warrant and charged Amichia with home invasion, sexual assault in the first degree, unlawful restraint in the first degree, and impersonation of a police officer. 

Amichia was arraigned on Dec. 22 and is in custody at the Connecticut Department of Corrections.
