NEWTOWN, Conn. — A woman was arrested following a barricaded incident in Newtown, according to police.
The woman was identified as 32-year-old Meghan Gouveia of Newtown.
Police were called to a Boggs Hill Road home for a dispute just before 8:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
When officers arrived, they found Gouveia and a victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds outside of the residence. Police were able to pull the victim to safety as Gouveia went back inside the home.
The victim was transported to Danbury Hospital and is in “stable condition,” according to police.
“Our officers acted selflessly and put themselves in harm’s way to pull the victim to safety. Additionally, our department is grateful to the surrounding police departments who responded to this incident and assisted in its peaceful conclusion,” said Lt. Scott Smith of the Newtown Police Department.
Gouveia is charged with Assault in the first degree, unlawful discharge of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm, two counts of risk of injury to a minor, reckless endangerment in the first degree, and negligent storage of a firearm.
She is being held on $1,500,000 bond.
