UNCASVILLE — Breanna Stewart was the first pick in the WNBA draft on Thursday, and her career path is unsurprising; the Seattle Storm had the first pick, and too UConn’s now-former star player.
Stewart is the fifth Huskies player to be taken first in the draft.
Her UConn teammate Moriah Jefferson won the second draft pick, being chosen by the San Antonio Stars. And unsurprisingly, the triple-threat stayed together, with third UConn teammate Morgan Tuck being picked third by the Connecticut Sun. This is the first time in league history that the top three picks came from the same school.
