Person dies after crash, car catches fire on Interstate 95 North in New Haven

The Toyota Tundra was engulfed in flames after the crash. So far, police have been unable to identify the driver.

NEW HAVEN, Conn — A person has died after their car crashed into a tow truck on Interstate 95 North in New Haven on Monday. 

State Police say that around 3:05 a.m., Troop G responded to a crash near Exit 44, with the report of a car on fire.

The police investigation revealed that a 2010  Kenworth Flatbed Tow Truck with a New York license plate was parked on the right shoulder when a 2012 Toyota Tundra with a Connecticut registration driving on the shoulder crashed into the back of the tow truck.

The Toyota Tundra became engulfed in flames after the impact. Police have been unable to identify the driver because of the extent of the injuries.

The tow truck driver was not injured.

Both of the cars were towed from the scene.  The crash is under investigation by the state Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad (C.A.R.S.).
