HARTFORD, Conn. — The Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection took a trip back to 1998 on Friday when citing the lyrics of “Closing Time” by Semisonic in a release informing residents that “you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here.”
DCP was referring to the time change that will occur this weekend. It reminded patrons that bars and restaurants may not stay open an extra hour after the Daylight Saving time change.
DCP’s Division of Liquor Control says that when the clocks turn back from 2 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Nov. 3, or Sunday morning, bars and restaurants may close. At that time, no more sales, consumption or presence of alcoholic beverages is allowed in these establishments, according to state liquor regulations.
“It’s time for our annual fun-sucking reminder,” DCP Commissioner Bryan Cafferelli said in the release. “When clocks turn back, that’s your sign to request a ride or call a cab, not to order another round. Go home, enjoy that extra hour of sleep, and as always, please drink responsibly.
Anyone with questions, or who wishes to file a complaint regarding a liquor permittee in Connecticut, can contact the Liquor Control Division by emailing dcp.liquorcontrol@ct.gov, or by calling 860-713-6210. The division also accepts complaints online filed here.
