HARTFORD, Conn. — As college campuses around the country deal with a rise in hate crimes and antisemitic incidents amid the Israel-Hamas war, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont is organizing a meeting with local higher education institutions to discuss ways to prevent future hate crimes.

The Connecticut Dept. of Emergency Services and Public Protection (DESPP) will conduct the meeting, the governor's office said.

A date and time for the meeting has not been announced at this time. The governor's office is currently reaching out to invite every higher institution's campus security officers to participate.

“We have zero tolerance for acts of antisemitism, Islamophobia, or hatred of any kind in Connecticut, and we will deploy all available public safety resources to keep our residents safe,” Lamont said. “The nationwide increase in incidents of hatred on college campuses is greatly disturbing and can infect anywhere. I am calling on all our higher education institutions to work together and strategize on how we can protect everyone on every campus from harm. We will not allow incidents of hate and intimidation to become normalized.”

The DESPP has been working closely with U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security and U.S. Dept. of Justice officials to monitor threats and share information about available resources with local police and officials and higher education institutions.

Report a hate crime to local police or the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or at tips.fbi.gov. Hate crimes can also be reported to Connecticut State Police by emailing hate.crimes@ct.gov. Imminent threats should be reported to 911.
