WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Local Jewish federations and state leaders are denouncing Iran’s recent missile attacks in Israel. Officials in Connecticut consider this a significant escalation and fear the potential of a regional war.
Local Jewish leaders said they stand in solidarity with Israel, and they continue to pray for their people overseas.
This comes as the Jewish faith celebrates the start of Rosh Hashanah on Wednesday.
"Yesterday was terrifying; it was not unexpected because Iran has been promising some kind of attack," said David Warren, the President and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.
Iran launched at least 180 missiles into Israel on Tuesday. With the help of the United States and its allies, many of those missiles were intercepted, but the impacts are still hitting Connecticut.
"Here at home, everyone has a connection to Israel, having children in Israel, family and friends in Israel, so it was really a scary time yesterday," said Warren.
Warren said it's been difficult to see the violence overseas. However, local Jewish leaders continue to lean on the Jewish community and pray for peace.
"Israel still hasn't recovered. There are still hostages and people dying. It's so important we come together in solidarity as a community in support of Israel and in support of each other," said Warren.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford will hold a vigil on Monday to mark one year since the war with Hamas and to honor the lives lost overseas.
