HARTFORD, Conn. — With the wind chill dipping into the single digits over the next couple of days, Gov. Ned Lamont has activated the state’s severe weather protocol.
The protocol will begin at 3 p.m. Monday and will remain in effect through 12 p.m. Wednesday.
“When temperatures drop this low, it can be very dangerous to be outdoors for extended periods,” the governor said in a statement. “Shelters and warming centers are available across Connecticut.”
According to officials, the purpose of the protocol is to ensure the state’s most vulnerable populations receive protection from severe cold conditions, which could be life-threatening if exposed to the elements for extended periods of time.
While enacted, state agencies and municipalities coordinate with the United Way’s 2-1-1 and Connecticut’s network of shelters to make sure anyone in need can receive shelter from the outdoors.
Anyone in need is urged to call 2-1-1 to be connected for these services.
