2 teens killed in Coventry crash, another injured

The car crossed the center line on Route 44 and crashed, coming to rest against a tree on the other side of the road.

COVENTRY, Conn. — A 16-year-old and a 19-year-old were killed in a car crash early Monday morning in Coventry. 

The crash happened on Route 44 by Silver Street. 

Police said the car had been driving east around 4 a.m., crossed the centerline of the road, and came to rest against a tree on the westbound side. 

Police said first responders at the scene pronounced the driver of the car died at the scene. Police identified him as Jacob Provost, 19, of Coventry.

The front seat passenger was taken to Hartford Hospital by Lifestar. They later died from their injuries. Police identified her as 16-year-old Olivia Cyr of Coventry. 

Another passenger, an 18-year-old, was released from the hospital Monday.

The investigation into what may have caused the crash is ongoing.
