CONNECTICUT, USA — A major technology outage affecting computers across the world is having an impact in Connecticut as well.
The outage impacts Windows-based systems using CrowdStrike, a global cyber security company. CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz posted on social media platform X that the company was "actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts." Mac and Linux users are unaffected.
Kurtz said the outage was not because of a security incident or a cyber attack.
In Connecticut, several police departments said that their 9-1-1 operations centers were not impacted directly but some agencies, like Southington, were having some computer connectivity issues.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) said that although it appeared some of its computers were impacted, its IT team is working to resolve any outstanding issues.
Connecticut's Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security said that they are "managing through some effects of the global CrowdStrike incident" and that it was not a cyber attack.
The Department of Motor Vehicles said on X that people should expect delays with services due to the outage and to check back for any updates.
