NEW HARTFORD -- The idea is to catch the drift, and just float with it.
It's part of Seth Boynick's fly-fishing experience. Boynick owns the Farmington River Trading Company and takes guests of all skill levels out on the river in a "drift boat" -- a small rowboat built to get into areas that increase the opportunity of actually making the catch.
"Every time you're 'round the bend its different dynamic," he said. "It's a beautiful river."
The sport of fly fishing has its own language, which Boynick is happy to teach, but says a beginner can have just as much fun heading out on the Farmington River as long as he has the proper guide.
"At its highest level (fly fishing) is like neurosurgery, but that doesn't mean that someone can't come out here and have fun on the first day."
The setting is serene on the river by the Canton-New Hartford line -- the river is an escape from the hustle of Route 44, which is just a hop away from the water.
After reeling in a 20-inch brown trout, fellow guide Steve Hogan said, "You're outside in a beautiful environment, what's better than that?"
