BROOKFIELD, Conn. — A New Milford man is facing charges for an alleged road rage incident in Brookfield over the weekend, in which he is accused of sideswiping the victim's car and then punching the 78-year-old driver in the face.
Jason Maisonave, 55, was arrested for the road rage incident that happened on Route 7 in Brookfield on Saturday morning.
State troopers responded to Route 7 south near Exit 11 around 11:45 a.m. Saturday for a report of a car crash, with one driver assaulting the other before leaving the scene.
Arriving troopers spoke to the victim, a 78-year-old man, who told state police that he was trying to shift into the left lane when a blue BMW sped up to try to block the victim's lane change. After the victim shifted into the left lane, the BMW slammed on the brakes and stopped in the left lane, forcing the victim to swerve back into the right lane, the victim told troopers.
The BMW then went into the right lane and shoulder, side-swiping the passenger side of the victim's vehicle. The BMW then spun across the left lane and into the median, and as the BMW got back on the road, witnesses told troopers the tires kicked grass onto their vehicle.
The BMW then parked on the right shoulder, Maisonave got out of the car and then punched the victim in the face, the victim told state police. Maisonave then took the victim's phone and slammed it on the ground before getting back in the BMW and leaving the scene, the victim said. Witnesses told state police the BMW went toward Interstate 84 in Danbury.
The victim reported having minor injuries but did not opt for medical treatment, state police said.
Police ended up finding Maisonave's BMW at the home where the vehicle was registered. He was arrested and charged with reckless driving, evading responsibility with an injury, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, speeding when being passed, failure to drive in proper lane, criminal mischief, assault of an elderly victim and reckless endangerment. He was released on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
