DANBURY, Conn. — After several days of searching, officials recovered the two missing swimmers at Candlewood Lake in Danbury Thursday afternoon.
The two swimmers went missing Monday night after they jumped off a boat and did not return, according to officials.
The missing swimmers were identified Friday as Muzha Medardo Vayancela, 26, and Loja Klever Guanuchi, 36, both of Danbury, according to the Dept. of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP).
Search, K-9, and dive teams from all over the area, including the Connecticut State Police and DEEP, spent days searching the 11-mile-long lake. The weather posed a challenge, with crews enduring the heat wave and suspending the search in between storms. The swimmers were found after the search resumed Thursday morning.
The bodies were given to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, officials said.
Officials are investigating the incident as an "accident," DEEP said.
