BROOKFIELD, Conn. — A fire ripped through a condo building in Brookfield early Thursday morning, destroying a whole row of homes.
Ten units at the Ledgewood Complex on Boxwood Drive were destroyed by the fire. Two people were taken to the hospital for evaluation but they are expected to be OK.
It’s unclear how many total people are displaced at this time.
The fire was reported before 1:30 a.m. Thursday and the fire spread quickly spread from one unit to the entire row of units.
Because the building is old, there were no protections in place to stop the fire from spreading, according to fire officials.
That’s something homeowners saw the impact of firsthand.
“The whole porch was a blaze and then it started into the roof and that’s why it’s spread. It just jumped through the houses because they’re old buildings it was built in the 60s and there’s no firewall in the attics, it’s just regular wood walls,” said resident Michael Martin.
“I haven’t really started to process it. My daughter is really upset and my wife is really upset, I’ve been through a lot in my life already and this is just another obstacle I guess I have to get over,” Martin added.
No injuries were reported in any firefighters.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
