DANBURY, Conn. — Since the beginning of the year, there have been at least seven domestic-related murders four of them being murder-suicides. The latest incident in Danbury on Friday.
According to police, an on-duty officer heard an argument on High Ridge Road. When he responded, he saw a man standing over a woman who had been stabbed in the road.
Police said the officer got out of his car to help. Then, the man stabbed himself in the chest with a knife. Police said both were taken to the hospital where they later died. They also said the two were in a relationship and lived together.
“Domestic violence is a public health crisis. Plain and simple. This is something that impacts us all,” said Liza Andrews with the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
In the last year, Danbury has had two murder-suicide cases, another one last November.
Domestic violence experts said there were seven murder-suicides this time last year across the state, eight in all, and while the numbers are down this year, this can be prevented.
“We want survivors to know that they are not alone. There are advocates across the state, available 24 hours a day ready to help, ready to listen. Ready to be that guide and support,” said Andrews.
