FAIRFIELD, Conn — Police say the death of a man found in the Aspetuck River, along with his submerged vehicle, may have been associated with Sunday night's severe flooding in the area.
The vehicle was initially spotted in the river by Weston Police on Thursday afternoon, who called in the Fairfield Police Department. Authorities believe the vehicle had been there for several days.
Upon investigation, investigators and police divers determined that the vehicle was unoccupied but that the driver was likely inside when it entered the water. The driver was determined to have been last seen around 5 p.m. on Sunday and the vehicle had last been seen at 10 p.m. the same night in Wilton.
Police launched a recovery effort and located the body of 59-year-old Robert Macisaac, of Weston, in the river near Bayberry Lane and Easton Road in Westport.
The exact cause of death has not yet been determined and will be held until the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner can conduct an autopsy. Police did say, however, that their preliminary investigation indicates the recent severe flooding could be related to the incident.
Sunday night's flooding caused wide-sweeping damage to the western part of Connecticut, destroying homes and businesses in several communities.
Two women were killed in separate incidents when they were swept away from their vehicles by raging flood waters.
