EASTON, Conn — A deer was involved in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning in Easton, said police.
Around 9 a.m. police received a report of a serious motor vehicle crash on Rt. 59 in the area of Sherwood Drive.
When emergency crews arrived they found a 2019 Ford pickup truck that had hit a deer and a 2015 Honda Pilot off the roadway resting upright against a utility pole on the driver's side. The woman driving the Honda was removed from the vehicle and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital in serious condition.
Investigators believe the pickup truck was traveling north on Rt. 59 when a large deer entered the road from the right. The pickup truck hit the deer, sending it airborne. The deer then hit the Honda which was driving southbound on Rt. 59. It went through the Honda's windshield and was ejected out through the rear window, police said. The deer landed on the southbound shoulder. The Honda continued to travel south and came to rest in a tall grassy area on the southbound shoulder.
Officials did not detail the deer's condition.
The road was closed for several hours.
Reconstruction teams from Westport and Fairfield are investigating the crash.
