STRATFORD, Conn. — A Fairfield University student has been identified as one of the victims of a fatal wrong-way crash on Route 15 in Stratford that happened Thursday morning.
Alexander Dennis, 21, had just finished his junior year at Fairfield University, and was driving home in a Honda CRV to Massachusetts when the crash happened, the university said on social media Friday.
The Honda was traveling north on the southbound side of Route 15 near Exit 53 when it collided with a Chrysler minivan overnight Thursday. Dennis and the three people in the Chrysler died from the crash, police said.
State police confirmed Dennis' death on Tuesday afternoon.
"At a time of year when we are actively engaged in the celebration of our students and their accomplishments, a loss like this seems inconceivable. Those who knew and loved Alex will be especially impacted by his passing, and his loss will be felt across campus," said university president Mark R. Nemec PhD.
The university said it plans to celebrate Dennis' life when students return to campus in the fall.
