BROOKFIELD, Conn. — A home day care in Brookfield was evacuated after a fire erupted near the chimney Thursday morning.
Brookfield volunteer firefighters were called to a home on Junction Road, which also functions as a day care, around 8:45 a.m.
First responders got to the home within a minute, as officials said the station is nearby. Arriving firefighters saw fire "venting" from the attic, officials told FOX61. Fire and smoke were visible from the top of the chimney in a photo provided by the Brookfield Fire Chief.
There were two adults in the home, as well as two children in day care. The children were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation but are expected to be alright, officials said.
Two firefighters also received minor injuries and are expected to recover.
The Red Cross is also assisting.
It is not clear at this time what the cause of the fire is and whether it is weather-related.
This is a developing story.
