NEW CANAAN, Conn — A Norwalk man pleaded guilty to charges in the 2020 kidnapping and assault of a woman in New Canaan, according to the state's Division of Criminal Justice Wednesday.

Mynor Romeo Alvarado-Canahui, 35, pleaded guilty in Stamford Superior Court to attempted murder, kidnapping in the first degree, assault in the first degree and attempted sexual assault in the first degree.

Under a plea agreement, Alvarado-Canahui will be sentenced to 25 years in prison on Feb. 13, 2025 and will be required to register for with the Connecticut Sex Offender Registry for the rest of his life.

Court records show that on May 25, 2020 in New Canaan, Alvarado-Canahui hit a 20-year-old woman from behind with his vehicle while she was walking along a "remote back country road," the DCJ said.

The collision sent the woman onto the hood of the vehicle, shattering the windshield, according to the DCJ. As the woman landed on the pavement, Alvarado-Canahui allegedly dragged her along the road to try to place her in the vehicle's backseat.

Alvarado-Canahui placed a hand over the woman's mouth as she screamed and attempted to fight back, forcing her down an embankment along the Silvermine River, the DCJ said. He allegedly then attempted to drown her by holding her head underwater.

After a married couple and their teenage son spotted Alvarado-Canahui pushing the woman into the water, he took off from the scene into a nearby wooded area, the DCJ said. He was allegedly seen dropping condoms.

The incident left the woman with injuries including a fractured skull, broken vertebrae and partial permanent hearing loss in one ear, the DCJ said. She did not know Alvarado and it appears that he targeted her randomly.

Investigators obtained Alvarado-Canahui's cellphone and found multiple internet searches involving "rape fantasies and kidnapping," DCJ said.
