BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Wethersfield man pleaded guilty Monday to distributing drugs used in a fatal overdose, according to the Department of Justice.

Jimmy Lassus, 40, pleaded guilty to distribution of fentanyl and oxycodone. A Bridgeport judge scheduled his sentencing for Dec. 23 as he faces up to 20 years in prison.

In the early morning of Oct. 6, 2023, Meriden police went to a home for a report of an overdose and found an unresponsive 27-year-old woman in the bedroom, the DOJ said.

The woman was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Investigators allegedly learned that the woman was texting with Lassus "several months" before her death. Text messages included that Lassus supplied her with oxycodone, and with the fentanyl that she ingested hours before her death, the DOJ said.

The messages included that it was the woman's first time using fentanyl, according to the DOJ.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined her cause of death to be "acute intoxication due to the combined effects of fentanyl, benzodiazepines, xylazine, and oxycodone."

Police have detained Lassus since his arrest on April 11, the DOJ said.

The DEA New Haven Task Force and the Meriden Police Department led the investigation with assistance from the Wethersfield Police Department. The DOJ said that the task force includes members from the DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation Division, Connecticut State Police and the New Haven, Waterbury, East Haven, Branford, West Haven, Ansonia, Meriden, Naugatuck and Shelton Police Departments.
