Norwalk vape shops, employees cited for illegally selling marijuana, tobacco to minors

NORWALK, Conn — Multiple vape shops on Washington Street in Norwalk have been cited, as have several employees who work at them, according to a release on Monday from Norwalk police.

Last Friday, around 6:30 p.m., members of Norwalk police’s Special Services Division conducted two search and seizure warrants; one was for Sono One Stop at 83 Washington St., and the other was for Exotic Smoke Shop at 68A Washington St., police said.

According to police, the Special Services Division received multiple complaints about vape and tobacco sales to minors, the illegal sale of marijuana and the sale of other items that contained high levels of THC at the two vape shops.

At Sono One Stop, Evary L. Zorrilla Jr., of Norwalk, was cited with illegal sale or manufacture of cannabis and possession of between 1.5 and five ounces of cannabis, police said. He was also charged with two outstanding warrants for illegal sale of tobacco to a minor, and his bond was set at $1,050.

From Sono One Stop, police said they retrieved 28 THC gummy bags, 50 pre-rolled THC blunt containers with five pieces per container, 26 Trinity Spinny THC vapes, 55 Cali D8 THC pre-rolls, 30 Hemp 8 THC D8 one-gram pre-rolls, nine Hemp 8 THC D8 one-gram pre-rolls and 34 Hemp 8 THC 1.5-gram pre-rolls.

From the location, police also said they seized 44 illegal THC/Hemp gummies, 23 illegal THC vape cartridges/pens, 82 marijuana pre-rolls, 14 marijuana edibles, 34 THC vapes/cartridges, 24 cannabis flower packages and $328.

At Exotic Smoke Shop, Barsha Sapkota, of Norwalk, was cited with possession of between 1.5 and five ounces of cannabis, use or possession of drug paraphernalia and the sale of one kilogram or more of cannabis. His bond was set at $1,500, police said.

From Exotic Smoke Shop, police said they took 273 THC vape products, 211 THC gummies/edibles, 166 THC vape products, 233 THC gummies/edibles, 128 3.5 gram-marijuana pouches, 14 3.5-gram marijuana containers, 25 2.5-gram pre-rolled joints, 18 1.7-gram pre-rolled joints, 42 one-gram pre-rolled joints, 12 .5-gram pre-rolled joints and 78 two-gram pre-rolled joints.

From that business, police also said they secured 83 one-gram pre-rolled joints, 10 2.5-gram pre-rolled joints, one 2.25-gram pre-rolled joint, 163 marijuana pouches, packaging material, $1,170 and loose change.

Anyone who observes the illegal sale of cannabis or sale of tobacco to underage persons at a vape shop in Norwalk can call the police tip line at 203-854-3111. Anonymous internet tips can be sent to Norwalk police at www.norwalkpd.com, and anonymous text tips can be submitted by typing “NORWALKPD” into the text field, followed by the message, and sending it to TIP11 (847411).
