STAMFORD, Conn. — A person was hit and killed by a car while crossing a street in Stamford on Tuesday morning, police said.
Officers were called to respond to a report of a person who was hit by a car around 6:50 a.m. on High Ridge Road, police said. Stamford Police Lt. James Comstock, who was off-duty at the time and in the area, witnessed the crash and called a medical crew.
Comstock provided aid to the person, identified as 48-year-old Cesar Cabrera-Guzman of Stamford, until medical services arrived. Cabrera-Guzman was eventually taken to the hospital where life-saving measures continued, but later died from his injuries, police said.
Officers determined based on preliminary information that a 2012 Chevy Suburban was going south on High Ridge Road and hit Cabrera-Guzman, who was in the same travel lane while crossing the street.
The driver of the car stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
The Stamford Police Department's Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad is investigating the crash and can be contacted at 203-977-4712.
