BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — The Bridgeport Fire Marshal's office is investigating after a small fire broke out in an operating room at St. Vincent’s Medical Center early Saturday afternoon.
The Bridgeport Fire Department was dispatched to the Hartford HealthCare facility on Main Street around 2 p.m. for an activated fire alarm, according to a release from the department.
Upon arrival, units upgraded to a full structure fire response after learning there was a fire in Operating Room #3. Once firefighters reached the room, however, they found that a small fire had been extinguished by the automatic sprinkler system.
The release noted that the fire was then confirmed to be put out before it had extended to any other parts of the building.
“Building engineering shut the sprinkler head off, and maintenance is handling cleanup of residual water,” the release said.
No injuries or evacuations were reported, as the operating room was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
