STAMFORD, Conn. — The driver who got a misdemeanor for his sedan hitting a 79-year-old woman in Stamford is now facing negligent homicide charges following her death.
On March 4 around 6:30 p.m., Stamford police responded to the intersection of Prospect and Forest Streets and found Mary Botan, 79, of Stamford with a serious head injury. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and later died from her injuries, police said.
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Tyler Zinko, of Stamford, stayed on scene and talked to police after the crash. At the time, Zinko was issued a misdemeanor for hitting a vulnerable person and causing serious injury, and he was released on a promise to appear in court.
The chief medical examiner told investigators on March 30 that Botan died from her injuries, according to police.
The Stamford State's Attorney's Office found out about Botan's death on Wednesday when Zinko appeared in court. His charges have been upgraded to negligent homicide with a vehicle. Zinko is scheduled to be back in court on June 21.
