STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford high school student is facing charges for allegedly making a threat on social media to "shoot up" a school.
The FBI informed Stamford police Friday afternoon of a threat that was made on Snapchat, which allows users to share photos and videos with friends. In the snap, the student threatened to "shoot up the school," Stamford police said.
The FBI tracked down the phone number and determined it belonged to a Stamford resident, and tracked the phone inside Stamford High School, and investigators ultimately identified the student. Detectives also searched two homes the student was associated with after speaking with her parents, police said.
No weapons were found at the homes or the school, police said.
Stamford police and the School Resource Officer arrested the student and was taken to police headquarters, police said. The student was charged with threatening in the first degree and breach of peach in the first degree. She is set to appear in court on Sept. 13.
The student is cooperating with the investigation, police said.
Investigators have reached out to Snapchat to gather more information.
