TRUMBULL, Conn. — Trumbull police report that they arrested a Stamford man Friday around 10:30 a.m. after he dragged an officer while driving a stolen vehicle.

The suspect, 57-year-old Brian Jacobs, was attempting to flee police but was taken into custody several miles away, according to a Facebook post from the Trumbull Police Department.

According to Trumbull police, an officer on patrol found a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that had been reported as stolen by Fairfield police earlier in the morning. It was traveling southbound on Route 15, and the officer stopped the vehicle.

The officer approached the pickup truck and tried apprehending Jacobs, who was driving, police said.

Jacobs allegedly drove the truck away and dragged the officer a short distance before he fell to the ground. Jacobs fled the scene and was free for the moment, but the officer returned to his vehicle and chased down the Toyota.

Jacobs was stopped and arrested on Main Street near Quality Street, according to Trumbull police. Trumbull EMS responded and took the officer to St. Vincent’s Hospital for minor injuries. Trumbull police say that no other injuries were reported.

Police say they found crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia in Jacobs' possession when he was arrested.

Trumbull police say Jacobs was charged with engaging police in a pursuit, assault on a police officer, interfering with an officer, possession of a controlled substance, use of drug paraphernalia, and illegal operation under the influence. He was held on a $50,000 bond and will appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Dec. 6.

Fairfield police also charged Jacobs for crimes he allegedly committed in that town.
