STAMFORD, Conn. — A Stamford man has received a 55-year-prison sentence for a murder that occurred in Norwalk on July 20, 2017, according to a release from the Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice.
On Aug. 15, a Superior Court jury in Stamford found 27-year-old Jermaine Scott guilty of the 2017 murder of Johnny Lezeau.
Trial testimony revealed that Scott and his then-girlfriend were traveling to a wedding when they came across a group of young men that Scott believed were related to a man who insulted and threatened his girlfriend in the past.
Prosecutors said Scott left the scene, returned to his home and grabbed a gun and a black sweatshirt. He then reportedly returned to the scene, found the group of men and fired five to seven shots at them.
Lezeau was the only individual struck by the bullets, as a bullet penetrated his chest and lodged in his arm. He died in Norwalk Hospital later that evening.
According to prosecutors, surveillance cameras captured the vehicle that Scott and his girlfriend were in. Investigators spoke to both Scott and his girlfriend the evening of the shooting, but they denied involvement.
Months later, the girlfriend came forward and provided law enforcement with details of what happened that evening, describing Scott’s involvement. Prosecutors say she testified at trial as part of a cooperation agreement.
Witnesses to the shooting included two of the men that Lezeau was with another individual who called 911 following the incident. Two more bullets were found in the walls of two houses on the street, and they matched the bullet found in Lezeau’s body.
Prosecutors said the murder weapon was never recovered.
