BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A woman was struck and killed while crossing the street in Bridgeport Friday, police said.
Officers responded around 8 a.m. to the area of Coleman Street and Washington Avenue after receiving multiple calls about a crash involving a pedestrian.
Police said that 79-year-old Marilyn Jones, of Bridgeport, was found at the scene and taken to the hospital for her injuries, where she later died.
Police said that Jones had been walking along a crosswalk on Washington Avenue when she was hit by a car going south on Coleman Street.
The driver of the car remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers during their investigation, police said. The circumstances leading up to the crash are currently unknown.
