Wrong-way driver charged after multi-vehicle crash on I-95 in Stamford

When they arrived on scene, troopers said they found a black Toyota Corolla heavily damaged in the left lane, as well as four other vehicles in the area.

STAMFORD, Conn. — State police are investigating following a five car crash they say was caused by a wrong-way driver early Wednesday.

Police said at 2:53 a.m. called to a five-car motor vehicle collision on I-95 northbound in the area of Exit 9 in Stamford, right after reports of a wrong-way driver in a dark-colored Toyota Corolla.

When they arrived on scene, troopers said they found a black Toyota Corolla heavily damaged in the left lane, as well as four other vehicles in the area.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla, who was not carrying her operators license according to police, was identified as Jacqueline Remache, 29, of Bronx, New York. Troopers said that her eyes appeared watery and bloodshot, her speech was slurred, and she had a strong odor of alcoholic beverages.

Police said Remache initially denied having consumed alcoholic beverages but later admitted to doing so. Ramache agreed to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene, which were not performed to standard,

Based upon the information obtained and observations made during the investigation, Remache was taken into custody and transported to Troop G in Bridgeport, where she was processed and charged with the following violations:

Remanche was charged with Operating Under the Influence, Driving the Wrong Way on a Divided Highway, Improper Entry Onto a Limited Access Highway and Failure to Carry an Operators License

Remache was later released on a $5,000 cash bond to appear in court on October 9.
