HARTFORD, Conn. — Millions of dollars in federal funding are on the way to Connecticut to help repair roads damaged in the deadly Aug. 18 historic rain and flooding that impacted many Connecticut towns, including Oxford, Seymour and Southbury.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is being awarded $3 million in "quick release" Emergency Relief program funding run by the U.S. DOT's Federal Highway Administration.
“This historic rain and flooding event has had a devastating impact on roads and bridges, as well as homes and small businesses,” Gov. Ned Lamont said. “The quick support of federal emergency relief funds ensures that the rebuilding efforts on our roads will continue uninterrupted. I thank Secretary Buttigieg, Deputy Secretary Trottenberg, and the Biden-Harris administration for authorizing the quick release of emergency transportation funding for Connecticut. Our administration will continue pursuing additional federal emergency relief funds to help our communities rebuild, including for homeowners and businesses who have been impacted and need support.”
Around 30 state roads were closed after the storm, and over 25 of them have since been repaired and reopened, according to Lamont's office. CTDOT has an interactive map of what roads have reopened and which roads remain closed. Take a look at the map here. A list of road closures, along with daily traffic events, can be found here.
