HARTFORD, Conn — A forest fire in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, is impacting people in Connecticut with a smoky smell and haze in the air.
According to the Berkshire Eagle, the 10-acre fire on East Mountain started early Tuesday morning.
FOX61 Meteorologist Matt Scott said the smoke from the fire is being drawn by a narrow band of winds out of the northwest into the state and down to New Haven. Only certain areas of the state are seeing the smoke.
The fire caused a haze in the air and a complaint of the smell of smoke miles from the actual fire.
Firefighters in Connecticut have battled a number of fires due to the drought conditions this fall. A brush fire burned 26 acres of private land adjacent to the Nathan Hale Forest in Andover on Monday.
State officials have stressed that residents be careful about anything that could cause a fire outside.
Rain is expected on Thursday.
