HARTFORD, Conn. — Flags in Connecticut will be directed to fly at half-staff on Friday in honor of former U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, who died Wednesday afternoon at age 82.
Gov. Ned Lamont is directing the U.S. and state flags to be lowered to half-staff "as a mark of solemn respect for the memory and longstanding service" of Lieberman.
Friday is also the day Lieberman will be laid to rest after a funeral service at Congregation Agudath Sholom in Stamford.
Lieberman vaulted into the national spotlight in the summer of 2000, joining Vice President Al Gore on the Democratic Presidential ticket. Before that, he served on the Connecticut State Senate and became State Senate Majority Leader in 1975, serving for four years. He also was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1988.
