WILTON, Conn. — A Georgia man died in a crash after evading a different crash less than an hour before in Wilton, according to police.

On Wednesday at around 7:53 p.m., Wilton police received a report from a driver who was following a gray SUV that had struck the complainant’s vehicle on the Merritt Parkway and evaded the scene of the accident.

Police said that the evading vehicle was reported to be traveling northbound on Danbury Road, near the intersection with Sharp Hill Road at the time of the call, and was driving in the opposite lane of traffic. Officers spotted the vehicle as it approached the intersection with Old Highway and activated their emergency lights and sirens to try and stop the car. Police got a record of the plate but the vehicle failed to stop at the officers’ signals and continued, at a very low speed, around 10 mph.

Police said that the vehicle was missing one of its wheels due to the damage from the accident it evaded.
