WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — It’s a sight to see each year during the month of October; the elaborate Halloween display outside of a home on North Main Street in West Hartford, and each year there is a different political theme.
This year is Matt Warshauer’s 20th year of building a display that will surely turn someone’s head. He said with so much going on this year, he chose more than one theme.
“My goal is to touch the pulse of what’s happening,” said Matt Warshauer.
Warshauer’s Halloween display might even stop you in your tracks.
“I just look forward to every year to see what he builds and the message,” said Jeff Pasquale.
United States Fun House is this year's message, which includes a six-section merry-go-round of different topics that have made news headlines in the last year.
“It is a dark concept, but the darkness that I put into these displays isn’t any darker than what’s going on in our society,” said Warshauer.
A fun house isn’t really fun if there’s not an interactive section like skee ball.
“Skee ball is a classic fun house arcade game,” said Warshauer.
He said while the theme is dark, for the kiddos that stop by, it’s just a place for fun.
“That’s the best part. The kids come up to this political Halloween display and all they see is Halloween fun,” said Warshauer.
While it’s all fun and games for him, Warshauer said things do get a little serious.
“Also, the politics of it is people are getting angrier and angrier and when people get angry, they do things that they might not usually do,” said Warshauer.
His message remains the same.
“What I’ve created is properly an effigy, a political effigy. That goes back to the heart of the United States,” said Warshauer.
