Hamden cyberbully PSA

HAMDEN - Some Hamden students are getting ready not only for a national competition, but to find out if they have what it takes to make it to the silver screen.

Students at Hamden's Engineering Science University Magnet School produced a film with a pretty powerful message.

"They have to shoot and edit a film in 54 hours,” said teacher Leon Tymes.

It is part of the All American High School film festival, a 10-week competition to produce a film.

Alexcina Figueroa is a film buff who made her first film in her freshman year and last year she was a competition finalist.

“I'd love to be the next Spielberg,” she said. "I want to make people interested in something they may not already be interested in.”

The short film, a public service announcement about cyberbullying, has a lot to do with the fact that the kids all say they’ve had to deal with cyberbulling at one time or other during their school years. They’re hoping to have a positive effect on their fellow students – and that, to them , is more important than winning an award.
