BLOOMFIELD, Conn. — The man arrested in Arizona on homicide charges out of Bloomfield will be extradited to Connecticut before the end of the year, officials announced Wednesday.
Devante Swaby was taken into custody on Friday by the U.S. Marshals in Arizona on an arrest warrant that named him the suspect of a fatal shooting on Dec. 4.
The 29-year-old is accused of shooting Timothy Ross, 31, while he was sitting in his car near the intersection of Cottage Grove Road and Bloomfield Avenue.
Bloomfield police launched a manhunt for the suspect and enlisted the help of the U.S. Marshals Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force. Their investigation led them to the 8100 block of N 99th Avenue in Peoria, Arizona, where Swaby had traveled to after the shooting, officials said.
Swaby is a resident of Peoria, Bloomfield police said.
The U.S. Marshals arrested Swaby and took him to the Peoria Police Department, where he was processed.
On Wednesday, Bloomfield police said Swaby waived his extradition in Arizona and will be taken back to Connecticut for his arraignment.
He was charged with murder, criminal use of a weapon, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of an assault weapon, and weapons in a motor vehicle. He is held on a $5 million bond.
Swaby is expected to appear in a Connecticut court on Jan. 4, 2024.
