BRISTOL, Conn. — The city of Bristol has a new police chief who was sworn in Wednesday morning.
Mark Morello, a 24-year veteran of the Bristol Police Department, was sworn into office by the city's Mayor Jeffrey Caggiano. He most recently served as the interim police chief, following the retirement of former Police Chief Brian Gould in April.
"Together we continue to build upon this agency's legacy of greatness," Morello said at the swearing in ceremony. "And I know, and I want you all to know, that I'll be here to support each and every one of you."
According to the Bristol police, Morello was previously deputy chief of operations and deputy chief of administration.
Police also noted that Morello was a graduate of the FBI National Academy-Quantico session #285 and has a Master's Degree in Public Safety from the University of Virginia, as well as a Bachelor's Degree in Public Administration from Eastern Connecticut State University.
Caggiano noted during the swearing-in that "we are all together, united behind Chief Morello, ready to move forward as a great Bristol Police Department, congratulations to you Chief Morello, I'm very proud of you."
After being sworn in by the mayor, Morello held a moment of silence to remember all police officers who have given their lives in the line of duty, especially including those of the Bristol Police Department.
