SOUTH WINDSOR, Conn. — A dog that was found abandoned and tied to a tree in South Windsor is now up for adoption, according to the Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter.
Obie, a 5-year-old dog who was previously referred to as "Kobe" based on the name on his collar that he was found with, was described as a pet who "loves being loved on" and deserves "to be the focus of attention," the shelter said in a Facebook post.
According to the post, Obie is "not fond of men" as they make him nervous and that he would be best in a female-only home. He also requires a "sensitive skin and stomach diet," leash training and time to decompress from his anxiety in the kennel, the shelter said.
"We have been told he is good with children, but we have not tested him," the shelter said.
Anyone interested in adopting Obie is asked by the shelter to contact South Windsor Police Animal Control at 860-648-6239. More information on who he is and what his needs are can be found here.
Police said Obie was first spotted on April 22 by a good Samaritan while walking their dog. He had reportedly been left abandoned with its collar secured to a large tree off of a walking path at the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary.

Janiya Branford, 26, of Manchester was later arrested on May 16 after turning herself in on charges from the incident, police said. She was released on a $5,000 bond and is expected to appear in Manchester Superior Court on June 5.
