Police say 2 dead in apparent murder-suicide in East Hartford

When police arrived, they found a man and a woman dead in the home.

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide that happened late Wednesday evening. A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said at 10:32 p.m., officers were called to Hilltop Farms Lane on a report of a possible gunshot victim. When they arrived, they found a man and woman in the home with fatal gunshot wounds. They also found a gun near the victims.

The man was identified as 62-year-old Naresh Kumar from East Hartford. The woman has been identified as 54-year-old Upma Sharma, also from East Hartford. Police said the gun was legally registered to the husband.

“Domestic violence is a real—unfortunately is a real trauma that people suffer from in this country all the time a nd our hearts go out to the families.," said Officer Marc Caruso, East Hartford Police. "And our detectives will be out there working. It's an active crime scene at this time and we’ll be working around the clock to do our part.”

Police said the victims were married. They found evidence that a dispute had taken place prior to the incident. A relative who police believe was the sister of the woman killed, was inside the home at the time. She contacted another family member out of state and told them there was a shooting and people had been shot, at which point, the relative from out of state then called police.

Police said, “It seemed to be a quiet household.”

The investigation is still active. Police said it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. Anyone with further information regarding this incident should contact Detective Patrick Sullivan at 860-291-7611 or call our anonymous tip line at 860-289-9134.
