ENFIELD, Conn. — Enfield police are searching for three suspects after a reported home invasion early Thursday morning, officials said.
Just before 2 a.m., Enfield officers were called to a home on Asuntuck Street in the Thompsonville section of town on a reported home invasion.
As officers were heading to the area, they were told that the three suspects were seen running from the residence and were subsequently in a white car across the street.
When officers got to the scene, they found three people inside a white car. Enfield police commanded the people to get out of the car, but the orders were ignored. Officials said the suspects then sped away from the scene, nearly striking two Enfield officers and several police cruisers.
As officials investigated the home, they learned that the residents heard banging at the door as the suspects broke a glass pane at the side door. From there, the suspects made their way up to the third floor, where they were confronted by one of the residents, who then retreated to his bedroom.
According to officials, one suspect pointed a gun at the resident and kicked the bedroom door in an attempt to get inside. After a short time, the suspects fled the home.
Police said investigators found evidence tied to the suspects inside the home and are working on several leads to identify them.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
“I’m just used to it. I’m pretty used to it,” said Maiy Aden, who lives in the area.
People who live in the area say they keep to themselves.
“I go to school and I come back home. I don’t be around these parts. That’s all I know for sure,” said Aden.
But when police showed up just after 2 a.m. Thursday with guns drawn, they couldn’t help but pay attention.
Enfield Police Chief Alaric Fox was just happy no one, including his officers, was hurt.
“They find themselves in harm's way day in and day out, and sometimes it makes the news, and sometimes it doesn’t, and we understand that. But I am very grateful, and I hope everyone is very grateful for the sacrifices and potential sacrifices that these officers engage in," Fox said.
Police are looking into whether the suspects, three men, knew and targeted the victims.
“I’m really glad that everybody is okay. Yeah, that’s honestly the only thing that’s on my mind is that nobody got hurt,” said Aden.
Enfield police are reminding residents not to wait until it’s too late. If you see something, say something.
“If something hasn’t happened yet [and] they are worried that it might [or] if something seems unusual, suspicious or out of the ordinary, that is also very much why we are here, and we are happy to respond to that request for assistance as well," Fox said.
