GLASTONBURY, Conn. — It’s like walking through a winter wonderland, but it’s a home in Glastonbury. Putting up lights has been a tradition for the Danco family for the last 16 years. It’s also a tradition for the community.
“We’ve lived in town for nine and we’ve been pretty much every year,” said Matt Sauneig.
“The Lights on Eastbury Pond” are turned on at 5 p.m. sharp on Thanksgiving for the community to enjoy during the holiday season. The display brings the community together.
“It’s great. I mean you see a lot of other people here already. It’s like become a part of everybody’s traditions now,” said Sauneig.
So how did this town staple start?
“My husband. My husband is Mr. Christmas...He just started with one tree, and it just transformed into this,” said Janna Danco.
It’s formerly known as “Lights on Fisher Hill;” Last year, the family moved into a new home not even a mile away from their old one.
Their yard is transformed into hundreds of colorful lights illuminating the pond and in the yard.
You may be wondering how much this sight to see project costs. Well…
“I’m going to plead the fifth,” said Danco.
What she did tell FOX61 is is how much joy the lights bring to their family and the community.
“Everybody’s happy so we keep on making it bigger and broader every year,” said Danco.
The lights will be on display from 5 to 10 p.m. each night until Jan. 1.
