'Threatening social media post' condemned by Glastonbury Superintendent of Schools

Superintendent Alan Bookman said police have identified a GHS student responsible for the post. That student is no longer enrolled in the district.

GLASTONBURY, Conn. — Superintendent of Schools Alan Bookman, Ph.D., has responded to a recent social media post threatening violence at Glastonbury High School, according to a statement he issued on Friday.

Regarding what little can be shared at this time, Bookman said the district is limited by law and the ongoing police investigation.

Bookman said administrators are reaching out to all families and staff in the district “because the post was both highly offensive and greatly alarming to our school community.”

According to the statement, a police investigation has identified the Glastonbury High School student responsible for the post.

Bookman said that, as of Friday afternoon, the individual is no longer enrolled in the district’s schools and cannot attend any school events or enter any school campus.

“There is no place in our school community for hate, racism or violence,” Bookman said. “This disturbing incident is a reminder to all of the importance of our work to provide safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments where all students feel respected and valued.”

The district asks for the support of residents in its ongoing efforts.
